Over the past ten years, Avgoustinos works as a Digital Humanities and Digital Cultural Heritage Specialist (Senior Officer) at The Cyprus Institute, the Science and Technology in Archeology and Culture Research Center (STARC). Before joining The Cyprus Institute, he worked in the information technology, informatics, and medical informatics sectors for about ten years in the USA and Cyprus. In addition, he worked for three years as a computer science and web development college lecturer.
Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate at Ionian University, School of Information Science & Informatics, Department of Archives, Library Science, and Museology. He has a Master's Degree (MSc) from New York State University (SUNY) in Medical Informatics and a Bachelor's Degree (BSc) from St. Francis College (SFC), New York, in Information Technology.
His research interests focus on digital humanities, structured content, virtual museums, museums' online collections, digital libraries, and the Semantic Web. His research activities include writing scientific papers and participating in scientific conferences, workshops, proposals for research projects, and the documentation and analysis of works of art and cultural heritage.
